Facilitator Training
For community leaders, teachers, social workers, creatives and anyone who holds space for others through hard things, whether in an official capacity or just as a core quality of who you are.
Why I'm Doing This
Over the past three years, I've run over 100 workshops for more than 1,000 people. In that time, I've watched seniors who've never picked up a paintbrush in their lives laugh, play, create, and celebrate. Again and again, people leave feeling a deeper sense of belonging and more freedom to express themselves.
It's been obvious from the beginning that Bad Art Club wants to grow, and I'm the bottleneck. A friend once told me, “If it’s not sustainable, it’s not radical.” If Bad Art Club is anything, it’s radical, and this is how I’m making it sustainable.
Now I’m ready to hand this modality to other space holders. Each of you will bring something to it that only you can: your own lived experience.
If that’s you, here’s what the training looks like and how to apply.

What This Is
A 6-week experiential training in the Bad Art Club modality for a small cohort of dedicated individuals who want to facilitate Bad Art Club and other transformative community workshops.
Bad Art Club is a community-based creative practice that supports wellness and belonging through low-pressure, sober, collective art-making using reclaimed materials.
The Session Arc
Sessions move through a three-part arc, and so does the training as a whole. This arc is what we'll be going through together, and what will help shape your offerings after the training is done.
- Connect safety and belonging in the group
- Create permission, play, expression, collaboration, experimentation
- Celebrate integration through sharing and reflecting

What You'll Walk Away With
An embodied experience of the effect of Bad Art Club's core structure and principles, so that the method lives in your body and not just your notes
An ability to tune into the frequency of a group and design an arc that meets them where they're at and takes them somewhere new, together
A toolkit of activities that serve as a foundation for your own creative mind to run with and a felt understanding of the impact of each one
A quieter inner critic, a stronger curiosity, a greater willingness to make mistakes and a sense of excitement to be a beginner
A community of peers you've built genuine connection and trust with to hold you accountable and cheer you on
A body of artwork, both individual and collective, marking your journey

Time & Place
- 6 sessions, weekly on Wednesday from 6-9pm (9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28) — The final session on 10/28 is a showcase and celebration!
- 2 sessions, bi-weekly on Saturday from 10-4pm (10/10, 10/24)
- The African American Arts & Culture Complex (AAACC) 762 Fulton St
It's important that we take this journey as a cohesive group. If you're unable to attend more than 2 sessions, it's best for you to join a future cohort.
Between Sessions
- Accountability buddy a fellow cohort member you check in with briefly, a few times a week
- Take-home integration practices morning pages, bad-art prompts, inward-facing work
- Group thread for sharing between sessions
- Weekly Q&A, podcast-style, Jules answers submitted questions
- Two 1:1 coaching sessions with Jules to deepen into what's coming up for you personally as a facilitator

After the Training
Completing the training gives you a full toolkit to design and lead your own workshops, and the ability to say you're trained in the Bad Art Club modality. You'll be equipped to facilitate in spaces you're already a part of and create your own spaces to gather groups and guide experiences. Some graduates will also be offered endorsement to facilitate as Bad Art Club, including use of the name in your marketing and listing on our official event tracker.
Endorsed facilitators may use the name "Bad Art Club" in their marketing for one year, renewable annually. You won't have access to the official logo or brand assets because designing your own visual identity and workshop names is part of finding your own flavor of this work. Endorsed BAC workshops must be capped at 3 hours and 40 participants, and cannot be run as retreats, corporate events, or private events under the Bad Art Club name. You may always share that you're trained in the BAC methodology, even without endorsement, but you cannot train others in it.
