Support Bad Art Club

Art is medicine for people in recovery.

Bad Art Club brings free healing arts workshops to people in early addiction recovery. No experience required and no milestones to hit, just a blank page, some paint, facilitators who care, and a room full of people making bad art together.

Gifts are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor, Independent Arts & Media, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Where your money goes

A seat at the table for someone who couldn’t otherwise be there.

People in the early stages of addiction recovery are rediscovering their sense of self and learning healthier ways to cope with life’s challenges. Bad Art Club gives them the opportunity to do both.

Since March 2026, we’ve led a monthly workshop for residents of two recovery homes run by The Latino Commission in San Bruno. So far, this work has been entirely pro bono. With your help, we hope to bring these workshops to The Latino Commission every week, and to expand to two other recovery centers in the Bay Area in 2027.

Full scholarships go to BIIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, and People of Color) and LGBTQIA+ individuals in recovery, funded entirely by people like you.

“Bad Art Club’s ‘no wrong way to make art’ philosophy is uniquely well-matched to a population that has often experienced their lives as a series of perceived failures.”

Independent Arts & Media

Independent Arts & Media is a San Francisco nonprofit that, since 2000, has stewarded and empowered independent art and media projects that foster community, civic participation, cultural engagement, and free expression. To date they've supported hundreds of affiliate projects that have collectively raised more than $30 million.

Bad Art Club is proudly one of those affiliates. Operating under IAM's 501(c)(3) nonprofit status means your donations to Bad Art Club are tax-deductible, and we're eligible for grants, funding, and sponsorships that aren't available to unincorporated groups.
